TITANS

Titans is…. Brilliant! Yeah, You read that right. A show that everyone had agreed was going to be a travesty including me ended up being good… Really good actually. The only reason I decided to watch this show is when I heard it was good, which surprised me for I was one of those people who hated the trailer. Now, I’m not a massive Teen Titans fan, so it doesn’t hurt me as much as some others when I see these characters being portrayed in ways that are very different from the comics and shows. The fact that I could look past the character inaccuracies made me enjoy the show even more.

I don’t know what it was that kept me hooked to the show. Looking back, I don’t really think that the plot was something to marvel at. The plot was basically how the Titans got together and became a team. Here, Raven is the main character and the plot ultimately focuses on her with the backstories of the other characters being fleshed out along the way. It was fine and it helped to carry the show forward. The main attraction of the show are the characters. Every single one of these characters are likable and I rooted for them. Now yes, I don’t like that they made Starfire black…. Or Beast Boy Asian…. But the actors still do well to bring the characters to life. After a while you get used to the new looks and don’t mind them as much… At least, I didn’t. Now, I’ll go through the main character one at a time.

Robin seems to be the closest to the source material in terms of looks and motives. The actor seemed like a perfect fit for the character. Even his costume is really good. To me it was a perfect representation of Dick Grayson. In the show, Dick has had a falling-out with Batman and has moved away from Gotham City. He is now a detective who also fights crime as Robin. His character does develop immensely during the show. He was definitely my favorite character in the show

Moving on to Raven. Rachel is a teenager who finds out that there is something dark inside of her. Bad things happen to her that I probably shouldn’t say cause spoilers. But yeah, things happen which finally leads her to meet Dick. Now, I’m not really sure how well she is adapted from the comics, but I liked her.

Starfire… This was a massive negative for me when I saw the trailer. She was black… Not that I have anything against that but I don’t like it when the source material is changed to be politically correct. Also the dress that she wears isn’t very superhero like. Her hair was also very off. Basically, I didn’t like how Starfire looked in the show. Now, moving on to the actual character. Kory has forgotten who she is and through the entire show is trying to remember where she’s from and why she wanted to find Rachel. She’s also a badass who can shoot fire apparently. She was a good character but was only more explored towards the end of the show.

And finally we reach Beast Boy. He is kinda the fun one in the group. Now, in the show he can only turn into a tiger, which is fine for now, But I do hope we get to see more of him in the future seasons. Contrary to the rest of the show, the CGI of the tiger was very impressive. He develops a bond with with Rachel, which is his primary role in the show. To be a friend to Rachel. He is probably the least fleshed out of all the characters but I do see potential. Honestly, the actor did really well and I didn’t mind his appearance.

In this show, there were many side characters and nods to other heroes from DC comics. I kinda felt that they might make this another universe meant for TV. In fact the Doom Patrol who was introduced in this show is getting a whole show for themselves. I just feel that this might happen for many of the characters.

Now, the only real negative I can give about the show is the CGI. This show might have some of the worst blood in recent history. It just looks awful and for a show that’s all about the violence and grittyness, I just wish they had put a little more effort into the blood. Even when Raven has her outbursts, it just doesn’t look nice. For some reason I realised that the entire show seemed to get better as the show progressed. The CGI became much better and the overall presentation also looked much more high budget.

The final episode was one weird episode. I’m not going to talk much about it of course, but I loved it. It didn’t do much for the story but just seeing it was a visual treat. The conclusion does leave you in a cliffhanger and I don’t mind it. I’m looking forward to season 2 and hopefully it’s as good!

I just want to say that if you shunned this show after seeing the trailer, you really should give it a try especially if you’re a DC fan.

This is my first real review sort of thing for a TV show, so I would be really grateful if you could tell me how I can improve my content.
